What is a Federal holiday?

A public holiday which has been recognized by the US government. Offices which are not essential are closed on these specific dates. Federal employees are all paid for the holiday day(s). If you are a Federal employee and you have to work, then you might receive wages for that day in addition to your holiday pay. Today there are 11 federal holidays in the United States. Most of these Federal holidays are also state holidays.
